Women in FLEET Mentoring Program

The data shows that Australia is nowhere near gender equity in science. FLEET recognises that women are underrepresented in the Centre and we are working to change this.

The lack of role models has been identified as the common barrier across every stage of the STEM career progression pipeline (AAS Women in STEM Decadal Plan). FLEET aims to provide additional support and mentoring for our researchers beyond that offered by our institutions. In particular, we recognise that women in STEM often benefit from mentoring relationships with other women researchers who understand specific challenges that they face in their chosen career.

FLEET is establishing a women-specific mentoring network to increase visibility of role models in the physical sciences and to aid career progression for women in the Centre. The Women in FLEET mentoring program aims to connect every one of our female members with another woman working in STEM. We hope that our mentors can provide our members with both practical career advice, and personal, independent perspectives on some of the issues that make working in STEM both challenging and rewarding.
