FLEET Equity, Diversity and Hardship Scholarship

The FLEET Equity, Diversity and Hardship Scholarships aim to attract, encourage, and support students from diverse backgrounds to join FLEET and pursue a career in STEM. These scholarships are offered in addition to the existing Women in FLEET scholarships, and of the same value. Specifically:

Honours scholarship

  • A maximum of $5,000 can be offered to outstanding students
  • 50% of the scholarship amount is contributed by the FLEET Equity & Diversity fund.

PhD Top-up scholarship

  • A maximum of $10,000 per annum can be offered to an outstanding PhD candidate with first-class Honours or equivalent
  • A maximum of 3 years or until the end of the financial year 2024, whichever comes first
  • Must be awarded another scholarship, or pending successful scholarship application to cover tuition fees and stipend
  • 100% of the top-up scholarship is contributed by the FLEET Equity & Diversity fund.

PhD partial-stipend scholarship

  • A maximum of $15,000 per annum can be offered as a partial stipend scholarship to an outstanding PhD candidate with first-class Honours or equivalent
  • 100% of the partial stipend scholarship is contributed by the FLEET Equity & Diversity fund, with matching funds for the remainder of the stipend to be provided from other sources.

Eligibility

Available for new/commencing students who meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander: be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person, and be accepted as such by the community in which you live, or formerly lived;
  • have a disability or who cares for a person with a disability: identify as a person with a disability, as per the definition of ‘disability’ under the Disability Act 2006;
  • identify as LGBTIQA+;
  • have experienced uncommon hardship: could include, but not limited to, being from refugee background; low-socioeconomic background; other carer responsibilities; experiences of domestic violence; other;
  • are from any other minority group
