Outreach Committee

FLEET is working to increase science literacy in the Australian community and inspire participation in science through outreach. The Centre outreach programs are designed to create a passion and appreciation for science in children, as well as a greater understanding of science in the general community.

At FLEET, outreach is defined as any activity where a centre member is speaking to the public about science, which does not necessarily have to be their own research. Outreach can be science activities and/or presentations to a range of audiences, including children, school students, teachers, university students, business, industry government and the public. Outreach can be designed to communicate FLEET research by centre members, but delivered at other institutions, such as public science centres.

The functions of the Outreach Committee are to:

  • Create resources that can be utilised by school teachers, students and the public for science education, and
  • Provide opportunities for science to reach a broad range of people, and to encourage girls to pursue science subjects
