FLEET ECR Travel Award

Guidelines

FLEET is committed to fostering the growth of students and postdoctoral researchers by offering opportunities to expand their networks and enhance their research and professional capabilities. The FLEET ECR travel grant scheme is specifically designed to provide additional financial support for travel endeavours that would otherwise be challenging to undertake. We acknowledge that each node already allocates a baseline budget for supporting travel expenses for students and postdocs. With the ECR travel grant scheme, we prioritise applicants from nodes that have fully utilised their travel funds.

This program operates on a competitive basis, where successful applicants may receive funding of up to $2,000 for international travel or up to $1,000 for domestic travel. We strongly encourage co-investment from the node or external funding sources. Requests for funding exceeding these predefined limits will be evaluated on an individual basis.

The award may be used to:

  • Cover costs including but not limited to airfare, accommodation, meals and transport
  • Allow members to travel to FLEET key events in 2024 such as the CoE Hackathon and the FLEET Landing event
  • Allow members to travel to conferences to present FLEET research. Priority is given to members delivering oral presentations at science meetings and conferences, particularly those who have not previously received FLEET conference support
  • Allow members to travel to accomplish FLEET research (e.g. collaborative meetings or research at user facilities) that can’t otherwise be accomplished without travel. Priority is granted to members who have not previously received support from other FLEET collaborative, travel, or training grants.

Applications are sought from all FLEET members for travels in 2023 and 2024 and must be received at least 6 weeks before the travel date. All trips must be arranged and paid for by the end of June 2024. Applications will be assessed weekly and open until funds are fully expended.

Application information

Applications will be assessed by the FLEET Education and Training Committee based on the strength of the proposal and its alignment with FLEET’s strategic priorities as well as the potential career development benefits to the applicant. All applicants will be notified in writing of the outcome of their application as soon as possible following the closing date for the round. Successful applicants will be provided with details about arranging travel and fund access. Within one month of return from the visit, the applicant must submit a one-page report on the visit. They may also be invited to participate in an interview with the Centre’s Communications Officer.
