Things to do around Lorne

There are stunning walks in the nearby Otway National Park

We are very excited to have more than 30 family members joining us this year, including 13 children in childcare. Families and partners may like to seek each other out to coordinate activities during the day. We’re happy to take suggestions on how we can help facilitate this.

Stuff to do in and around Lorne includes:

  • Walks around town including the swing bridge (up the lovely Shipwreck Trail just north of the conference venue) and pier (about 30min south, a nice spot for seafood lunch). Head to Teddy’s lookout at the southern end of George Street for spectacular views inland as well as along the coast.
  • The main street has cafes and touristy ’boutique’ shops – they claim ‘a Mediterranean feel’.
  • Lorne beach foreshore is very nice from the cafes down to the beach, enjoy the lawn, gum trees and picnic and barbecue areas.
  • Lorne’s 2km beach is not patrolled during winter so please take care if you choose to swim
  • Livewire Park is just a 5 minute drive for a fun filled day zip lining through tree lines or enjoying the epic ropes course Livewire Park
  • Surf board and other equipment hire is available from HAH Lorne Beach
  • Or learn to surf and test your abilities with Go Ride a Wave
  • Paddle the Erskine River in rented canoes (ask at the information centre), or kayak in the surf, estuary or river with SeaEarth (Lorne) or Go Ride a Wave/Anglesea Paddle (Anglesea), or take a kayak tour out to the seal colony from Apollo Bay
  • Erskine Falls (15min drive inland) 5min walk from the carpark, or there’s a 8km option for the enthusiastic bushwalkers
  • Sheoak Falls is even closer: just 15min walk off the Great Ocean Road a few kilometres south of Lorne towards Apollo Bay.
  • Play a leisurely game of mini golf, just a short 20min drive away atGreat Ocean Road Mini Golf
  • Driving Great Ocean Road (one of the greatest drives in Australia), including north to Torquay (surf beach), or south to Anglesea (surf lessons, bike park), Wye River (cuteness!), Cape Otway (koalas)
  • Otway National Park (an hour’s drive south) is stunning, with great walks, a pretty little lighthouse, zipline, and elevated walkway... Picnic options include almost any of the numerous pretty little waterfalls as well as Blanket Leaf, Sheoak, Distillery Creek, Moggs Creek, Paradise, Melba Gully, Shelly Beach, Triplet Falls and Blanket Bay.
  • For some adult only fun, there are breweries, distilleries and cellar doors: Salt Brewing Co or Great Ocean Road Gin or St Annes Cellar Door
  • At the venue: facilities include pool, tennis, golf, croquet, bocce
  • There’s an onsite day spa Endota Spa.
  • Lorne Information Centre is just inland of the conference venue, near where the main road crosses the river website

Families and partners are welcome to join us all for social events in the evenings, including pizza (Monday), bowls (Tuesday), pasta (Tuesday), main dinner (Wednesday) and Mexican buffet (Thursday).
