Matthias Wurdack off to Lindau Nobel meeting

FLEET’s research fellow Matthias Wurdack has been chosen to represent Australia at the annual Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting this year.

Matthias will be among six early-career Australian scientists attending the 71th Meeting of Nobel Laureates in Lindau, Germany, 26 June – 1 July 2022.

The 71th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting will be dedicated to chemistry, expected to be attended by around 30 Nobel Laureates and 600 young scientists worldwide.

This is a great opportunity for these up-and-coming scientists, and will instil great confidence for their future careers. In 2019, three FLEET young researchers were also chosen among ten Australians to attend the 69th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting, dedicated to Physics.

Travel for the Australian reps is funded by the Science and Industry Endowment Fund (SIEF) and administered by the Australian Academy of Science (AAS)

Matthias Wurdack (ANU) studies strong light-matter coupling and exciton-polaritons in atomically-thin semiconductors. Matthias recently completed his PhD with FLEET and is now working as a postdoctoral researcher. He was also the recipient of the AIP NSW Award for Postgraduate Excellence in Physics 2020 and the John Carver Award 2020.  “The opportunity to meet and interact with the participating Nobel Laureates and fellows will give me inspiration for future research projects and will strengthen my self-confidence. This confidence will contribute to the success of my current and future work, will help me to teach others, and inspire a new generation to get engaged in science” says Matthias.
